Each year exact percentages and number of a wards will be decided by the Student Selection Committee. New USA(J)MO Awards! For the USAMO, the AMC will award Gold prizes to at least approximately 6%, Silver to at least approximately 12%, and Bronze to at least approximately 18% of competitors. For the USAJMO, we will continue to name winners but will increase recognition to at least 20% of contestants. For both USAMO and USAJMO, each additional contestant with 14 points or more will receive an Honorable Mention distinction. The nominee’s colleague, supervisor, or community member may submit the letters to reflect how the nominee encourages, supports, and maintains their students’ enthusiasm for mathematics through the AMC. In place of two letters, we will also accept a single letter of recommendation written on behalf of the nominee signed by at least two individuals, neither of whom is the nominee. Each nominee must have two letters of recommendation, one of which may be from the nominee. This prestigious award is accompanied by a $500 stipend and recognition on the MAA website and social media. Award recipients also receive complimentary registration, housing, and travel expenses to MAA MathFest in Tampa, FL, from August 2 - 5, 2023.Įligibility: Nominees may include any teacher who has administered the competitions, mentored students, or encouraged students to participate in AMC, but all nominees must be middle or high school teachers in either a public or private school. The Edyth May Sliffe Awards for Distinguished Mathematics Teaching in Middle School and High School are given annually to middle and high school mathematics teachers who have done outstanding work to motivate students in mathematics through participation in one of the MAA American Mathematics Competitions. Starting with the 2022-23 cycle, the AMC will return to its original in-person format. During the last two cycles, we temporarily allowed remote proctoring solely in response to school buildings closing for COVID-19. The competitions program has always required competition managers to be affiliated with a physical location. The MAA AMC is a school-based competition program hosted by public and private educational institutions.
